For the past 12 years The Yacht Report has spent most
of its formative years and to the present day gathering
information and data on the superyacht market – within
the pages of the magazine itself, within the Annual
Report and the online resource the International Yacht
Register, or via the 25 seminars, meetings and
conferences held since the business began. Our network
of contacts and knowledge pool are unrivalled and have
allowed us to make the logical step on to the internet
with a brand new project.
In September, after six months of testing and trialling,
The Yacht Report’s brand-new web strategy was unveiled
and within the first couple of months in the public domain
has received huge plaudits from users and information
providers alike. With the short, sharp acronymic title of
synfo.com, we are confident that over the next twelve
months we will have created the perfect web-based
platform for the large-yacht market.
|
 |
In simple language, synfo.com will deliver superyacht
news and information to anyone who needs it. With
thousands of pages of articles, technical papers and
pure information, every level of the large-yacht world will
find something of interest and relevance, whether it’s a
paper on helicopter stowage, or rescue boat rules, from
legal issues to tax implications even down to past reports
on significant yachts that may have entered the
brokerage market, synfo.com can provide immediate
information, wherever you are on the planet. You no
longer have to wait for a printed medium, or regret not
being able to make it to a seminar on the other side of
the world; the information is now at your fingertips, even
if you only use two of them to type on your keyboard.
If you haven’t yet found your way to www.synfo.com,
I ask you to spare five minutes of your time and surf the
site; even as a free user there is a vast amount of news
and information available to you. When I say free user,
you are bound to gasp, ‘Oh I see, you have to pay for
the synfo service, but I refuse to pay for info on the web!’
Let me explain: if you are currently reading this copy of
The Yacht Report, then in theory you are a subscriber,
unless you have stolen it from your colleague’s desk or
bunk. Every paying subscriber to The Yacht Report gets
full access to synfo.com, with all of the additional levels
of data and information required. Therefore, for as little
as £35 pounds sterling, depending on where you live,
not only do you receive one of the most authoritative
magazines ten times a year, but for the same period, and
this time for 365 days, 24 hours a day, no matter what
time zone, you can keep up to date with the market.
|
 |
 |
In addition you can participate in our on-line forum,
affectionately labelled the synforum. Plus, as a bonus,
depending on who we’re writing about, Tork, our
globe-trotting, keyboard-tapping Yacht Report Editor,
and I will deliver our views, thoughts and anecdotal
perspectives on the world of large yachts via the new
synfo-blog. Whenever you find the time to read our
thoughts, via our blog, make sure you respond if you
don’t agree or want to add something. It is this type
of on-line activity that makes the internet so dynamic.
While I love creating the print media and being involved
in the development of the physical copies of The Yacht
Report, when you really think about it, almost everything
you read in print is almost always old information and
out of date, or you have already heard about it on the
grapevine. The concept of www.synfo.com is to break
down the barriers and allow everyone in the large-yacht
industry to keep in touch and stay informed, at the same
time.
Now synfo.com is not just about news and information,
technical papers, blogs and fora, there’s so much behind
the scenes of the site. With our team at The Yacht Report
headquarters and our wide cross-section of contacts
and readers, we plan to bring you real time news. So if
something happens in the southern hemisphere, our man
in Sydney or Auckland or Hong Kong will send in the story
so you as a Yacht Report reader get to hear about it
before it has crossed the Atlantic and been blown out of
proportion like an unpredictable hurricane or before the
Chinese whisperers have misinformed because they have
added their personal take on the story for tabloid effect.
- a wave of information

- surfing the superyacht world
In addition we have also made our company directories
fully accessible on line, and with several thousand
suppliers and contractors around the globe all listed
according to their disciplines this resource will clearly
deliver huge value to any reader of The Yacht Report.
By the way, if you need to make sure your company
is listed correctly or according to your category, or
perhaps you’re a new supplier who would like to enter
your details, then go right ahead. There is a vital button
to click called Enter New Company; just follow the
instructions and submit the info to synfo; it’s so easy
even I can do it!
But it doesn’t end with this ever-increasing directory; we
have added even more value to the site of synfo.com.
During the twelve years of publishing The Yacht Report
we have been monitoring the market very closely,
recording and registering all new yachts built, delivered
or ordered and we feel confident that we have probably
the most comprehensive on-line database of yachts
available today. With almost every yacht over 30m listed
within this incredible resource we know that for anyone
who needs to stay informed and be aware of the
market’s growth, this section of synfo.com is worth ten
times the price of a magazine subscription. For any
company or individual who wants to know the current
state of the order book and the real numbers for the
market size, if you’re planning a marketing strategy or
need to know which yachts do not have your product
on board then this vast database of information can
provide the required details immediately. Where else
can you find this?
Please forgive me for this rather blatant sales pitch; I know
I shouldn’t, but I cannot resist, after all the work we have
put into the site and its development I want you to truly
understand what it can deliver and how good it really is.
I am passionate about the business and the products we
bring to the market, so if you can spare five or ten minutes
to visit www.synfo.com and explore exactly what it could
offer you, I am hugely confident that you will not be
disappointed. It really is the most comprehensive and
valuable webtool for the superyacht market, and is, as
our marketing slogan suggests, the superyacht information
source. No whiz bang gimmicks or flash imagery, no
ridiculously large videos or images to load, just a very
clean and clear, easy-to-navigate site with a vast array
of data and news that will truly inform and enlighten.
Try it, you might like it, as one advertising slogan once
said. The only problem with advertising is that you might
remember the slogan but sometimes you forget what the
product actually is. In the case of www.synfo.com there’s
no clever marketing slogan, just a short simple name
and the description “the superyacht information source”
underneath; ’nough said. (Wasn’t that another slogan for
some forgettable product … oh well, never mind) Thanks
for reading thus far.

In addition to the Superyacht information source, we
have set up an affiliated website, search-engine based
whereby you can have direct access to all things
Superyachty at the touch of a button. eblu.com works
on a similar format to Google (TM), the difference being
that our online database is Superyacht specific. So if you
are searching for something with a rather ambiguous
name or phrase, directly pertaining to Superyachts, the
last thing you want in your busy work schedule is to have
to sift through all the irrelevant news and sites in the
traditional search-engines. Instead, come to eblu.com
and have everything you need and nothing you don’t,
from the world-wide-web and synfo.com on your
computer in a split second! Again, just another service
we have created to help you with your work in your
hectic day.
If you have any comments on how you think our services
could work better for you, let us know; it can only add to
the evolution of the services we offer.

1. Synforum: The Yacht Report’s reader forum that allows every visitor in the industry to post their opinions and thoughts on a particular subject on the site, throwing open debate and ideas for the evolution of the industry. Some topics will be generated by topics raised at events like Project (now Global Superyacht Forum); indeed, many of our delegates could use this as an extension of Project/GSF, continuing dialogues and debate started in San Diego or Amsterdam.
2. Synfo Blog: The senior editorial staff of The Yacht Report post their thoughts and opinions on the industry and its latest trends, and more. These may be controversial and anyone can send Martin or Tork their responses and open up some truly fascinating debates. Those responses that are relevant will be added to the blog.
3. Yacht Register: Compiled over 12 years and with 3,298 superyachts listed on our database at time of press, updated daily, we have a complete list of almost every superyacht (>30m) ever built.
4. Vessel Detail: Each superyacht entry on the Register shows criteria, from overall size and hull material through to the engines on board and port of registry. We also have the current Captain, the ratio of guests to crew and, where available, photos of each yacht on each Vessel Detail page and in our online gallery. If you would like to advise us of specific changes we are unaware of, this is the place to do so.
5. TYR issues: Not only can premium subscribers download the current issue the very day its published but back issues of The Yacht Report are available online to download digitally or order as a hard copy. This gives immediate access to our incisive journalism, reports and features on the industry, including every January our Annual Report with Market Reports and Global Order Book. TCR issues are free to download, offering rapid access for cruising crew.
6. Synfo Directories: In addition to superyacht details and industry news, we also offer a comprehensive directory of companies serving the superyacht industry. So if you are looking for anything from tenders and toys through to management companies to waste management companies, you can find full details here. This is vetted in-house by our expert editorial staff to ensure only relevant companies are listed. In addition to this, each company with a listing will manage its own entry protected by passwords and user names.
