A new superyacht facility as opened on San Diego's bayfront Fifth Avenue Landing located in heart of downtown, as it seeks to enhance the city's standing as a premier destination for superyachts on the USA's West Coast. Located adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center, within walking distance of several world-class hotels, the Fifth Avenue Landing is a exclusive 12-slip facility, able to accommodate yachts up to 91m. “This is San Diego yachting at its finest,” said dockmaster Fred Larsson. “We promise megayacht owners, captains and crew the finest berthing experience they’ve ever had.”
San Diego has made a concerted effort in recent years to broaden and increase their appeal to owners and Captains of superyachts, with the addition of several privately-owned facilities, notably Kona Kai Marina and Shelter Island Marina. A new downtown facility, The Wharf, located along the city’s bayfront Embarcadero, offers med mooring for yachts of virtually any size. For the Fifth Avenue Landing one notable guest was the 68.5m Feadship built superyacht Attessa, which spent several weeks at the facility in early
2009. Larsson reports that “I asked the captain if there was anything else we could add to improve
our dockage and he told me, ‘Absolutely nothing'. He
said he couldn’t believe how convenient we are to everything that’s
great about being in San Diego."
In terms of organisation, the San Diego Superyacht Association was formed in 2008 to bring together the city’s leading marine businesses - with goal being to provide a full range of products and services to the burgeoning superyacht market. “We are pleased to be part of San Diego’s new appeal to the megayacht industry,” said Larsson. “Once owners, captains and crew members see what San Diego has to offer, they’ll be amazed.”
