21 April 2009 - Yard Profile: Blue Coast Yachts

Blue Coast Yachts is a France-based company that builds catamarans and multihulls, as well as organising charters.  We met with them at the Abu Dabi Yacht Show back in March where they gave us an update on their current work.

Currently their project to shout about is their 165' (50metre) design, designed by Jean-Jacques Coste (designer of the 31m Allures, launched in 2006), right now the biggest catamaran study of its type in the world.  It already has an owner, and construction will begin at the end of this year.    Constructed from a sandwich of carbon, epoxy and PVC she will have a light but very resistant body.  With features such as a cinema, gym, a private owners deck and 4m pool, as well as six cabins (capable of hosting 12 guests) the design makes for an yacht that will cater for the every need of both owner and guests.  Her interior is fully customised to the wishes of her owner and with a 22m beam it will be incredibly roomy within, particularly for a sailing yacht, with an interior space of 1000m2 being more equal to that of a yacht with an LOA of 100metres.  The Blue Coast 165' will also have a  helipad, a feature that is fairly unique on sailing yachts.

Her design takes full advantage of the advanced technologies on offer, to ensure an exceptional performance when under sail: in fact she will be able to reach 15 to 20 knots safely and in comfort, with higher speeds envisioned with good conditions.  Producing eco-friendly yachts is very important to the yard, and the Blue Coast 165' conforms with this ethos.  With her light body meaning she will be efficient to run, she will also likely have an electrical diesel propulsion system, which will mean the reduction of emissions and increased efficiency.

Other projects currently in the Blue Coast books are a 105' design for a different owner, as well as a 90' design on which work will begin this summer.   For any enquiries, please contact Blue Coast Yachts directly.
