Abu Dhabi MAR has announced the successful acquisition of a controlling interest in the Nobiskrug
Shipyard, based in Rendsburg, Germany. This represents the second time the yard has been bought in just over a year, with a report on Synfo.com from April 2008 detailing the sale of Nobiskrug by ThyssenKrupp Technologies to Guernsey' s Eagle River Capital Ltd.
Originally founded in 1905, Nobiskrug has a reported 100 million Euro
annual turnover and over the course of its history launched some 700
vessels, of various sizes. The yard now employs some 420 staff at their
173,000 square metres facility, of which 44,000 square metres is under cover. Nobiskrug also comes with drydocks of 151m and 193m in length, and recently launched the 74m Siren (with five other superyachts currently under construction).
Since its founding two years ago, Abu Dhabi MAR
shares common ownership with the CMN Shipyard in Cherbourg, France. CMN
currently produces its “Line 60” (197-foot) yachts, designed by CMN in
collaboration with Andrew Winch, with the launch of Slipstream and Cloud 9 this year, with a third under construction. Abu Dhabi MAR itself has four yachts under construction, including the the Swift141 (462ft) and Swift135 (442) that are conversions of Dutch-built navy frigates. The Swift141 is scheduled for launch later this year, and is shaped and styled by Pierrejean Design Studio in Paris.
According to Superyacht Intelligence Agency, there are currently 83 yachts 60m plus on the Global Order Book (excluding as yet unverified or confidential orders). The combination of Nobiskrug, Abu Dhabi MAR and CMN are scheduled to add ten yachts to the global fleet in the future - representing twelve percent of the total new large superyachts set to hit the water.
