Captain Axel Koch very kindly sent The Yacht Report Group the lowdown on MITseaAH's Newport Bucket race experience. In a Bucket first, MITseaAH, engineered to power at over twenty knots and sail with respectable performance, was challenged on day one in keeping up with the racing yachts on the upwind leg. Respecting the fact that the Bucket showcases the best attributes of each yacht while cultivating good racing, MITseaAH's was invited to start the race under full power, then execute a high speed 360 degree turn and roar off to the windward mark, where she re-converted to a sailing yacht, shut down the power and got into the race! Her left-field handicap worked well too; she crossed the finish line in fifth position!

When asked after the race...to what did he attribute this remarkable feat...the Captain calmly stated that it may have had something to do with the 7000 HP engines being at full throttle.

When last seen...the engineer was heard shouting (in a Scottish brogue)..."I don't know Captain...I think she's about to blow!!"

In a related story...unusual wave heights were reported in the vicinity of Castle Hill.





Several small boat sailors reported knockdowns and said that they were in fear for their lives. Subsequently...many of those involved, headed directly to the pub and began to drink heavily.





 
In a stroke of brilliance...the bucket race committee gave MITseaAH special permission to showcase her true design characteristics…(the only thing missing was a water skier)...





…much to the delight of the designer and the owners...Mrs. L. was quoted as saying "This was the best boating day I've ever had."




Realising that history had been made…the family posed for photos and for posterity.

As is the nature of the bucket…it was all in good fun! Another job well done by the bucket committee and all those involved…HATS OFF!"
