Based in the important maritime hub of Genoa, Amico & Co have also
shown their commitment to the refit market by recently investing in an
impressively huge 835 tonne travel lift. Costing some two million
Euros, this alone represents a considerable investment, but with the
yard reporting that they also have an additional 4.6 million Euros set
aside to for new investments it would seem that Amico have recognised
the value of continuing to expand in the market even in the present
climate.
Key of course to the company's future plans is their development of the new Amico Loano facility, which is scheduled for an official opening towards the middle of this year and looks set to expand their already sizeable presence in the market. Talking to Amico recently, Synfo.com learnt that there is big plans for this new facility, but the yard are currently staying silent on the exact details - with official news to be revealed soon.
This interest and commitment to investing in the refit sector is not being made by Amico alone. Talking with The Yacht Report in Issue 110, one of three partners at ITM, Jean Christophe Lenoir told in no uncertain terms, that refit will be big business by the third quarter of 2010 and ITM are intending on taking full advantage of the new business on offer.
This apparent confidence in the market was also recently voiced by Vincent Larroque at Monaco Marine, who told Synfo.com that the company are also intent on extending their docking facilities and services. Scheduled to start this summer, and to be completed within five years, the company say that it will double their current working capacity. With a repair basin for yachts up to 200m, a new 4000 ton syncrolift for yachts up to 110m and 220m covered dry dock area. With the new build brokerage market still weathering the credit crisis storm, buying and refitting a yacht only a few years old may well become the more attractive option for prospective owners - benefiting those yards able to offer such services.
